I have been hit by a hideous cold, as has my swimming buddy! Without being dramatic, it is starting to feel like fate is against me. As you are aware, if you have been reading my posts, I have enough trouble trying to figure out non-land breathing i.e. making sure I don’t drink half the pool when I take a breath whilst swimming,. With the added addition of a lovely bug causing my nose to be blocked and my head to be swimming (no pun intended) I have to give swimming a rest this week. The ponies are enjoying a bit of an easier time too; they will be back to boot camp too once with cold has cleared.
I am currently, however, attempting to persuade a friend of mine to join in with our water antics. She used to enjoy swimming, and then has recently started doing other exercise like the gym and running instead. I dislike running. Probably because I am not very good at it: 5KM feels like my lungs are about to explode.
Actually thinking about it, there appears to be a running theme here with my breathing. But I don’t have asthma, and it never causes problems with my riding, nor when I used to do county sprinting when I was younger. I might just go and have a look at different breathing techniques or find a bit more about if different sports do different things to our systems.
