I thought I could but I hadn’t done it yet… until yesterday evening. After a day at work, teaching, marking, planning and an after school meeting I went to Queenford Lakes Open Water Swimming and swam 1 MILE!

I feel immensely proud of my achievement. I didn’t set out to swim a whole mile. The plan was to swim as far as I could, possibly 750m, maybe 1K if I could but never a whole mile. I started off and kept going, and going, and going… and then I thought about how amazing it would be if I managed it and could go home and tell my family I had done it. That was it, I had to keep going and I did.

So here’s some thanks – to my partner Tim and daughter Clara for their support so far and swimming with me on numerous occasions, to Katia for the encouragement and the pictures and to Deb for swimming with me at the lake yesterday.

Finally, to all of you reading this blog. If there is anything you fancy doing but aren’t sure you can do it, give it a go. Just a few weeks ago I did not swim regularly and now I can swim a mile. If I can do it, so can you. Go for it!
