The Best Laid Plans…

So, just after my last blog post I was all excited and raring to go. I was going to Paris to meet my partner, so had researched pools there and packed all my swimming stuff.

What happens? The morning we set aside to go to the pool (our last morning there), we somehow end up waking up late (probably knackered from the days before spent touring the city on foot – and quite frankly, even just navigating the jam-packed Pompidou Centre was enough to make me want to hide in bed for a few days). It’s too late to make it to the pool, and I end up returning to London with my unused swim gear in tow.

Around this time, my exam dates are (finally!) released by uni and Murphy’s Law, from all the dates in May that my three exams could fall on, one falls on the afternoon before my planned first half marathon in Helsinki. Thankfully I’d only paid the race entry fee and hadn’t bought my ticket or accommodation yet, but it was still a real bummer – I’d been working up to that race for months.

Although frustrated by these kinds of events, we can all relate to the age-old adage: sh!t happens. There’s no point getting stressed over it. Accept it or change it.

For me, that meant realising that my exams come first and until my exam period is over (this Thursday, yay!) everything else will be pushed to the sidelines. It’s only temporary and after that I’ll have the whole summer to focus on all the other exciting things coming up (swim training and my new choice of half marathon to run as my first).

So for now, back to study…
