Overweight, under height, and definitely unfit – what was I thinking? I’m never going to get a wetsuit to fit me! I’ve been calling myself 50 for some time but by the time the Henley Mile comes round I will be in the last year of my forties. After dedicating the last decade to work, kids, husband and home, I am now starting to panic and exercise is becoming something I can no longer afford to ignore. It’s not that I am a newbie to sport, it’s just that with a 15 and 17 year old daughter – both fab swimmers, I have become somewhat of an armchair expert in several different sports – swimming, dancing, rowing, Tae Kwon Do, not to mention cycling, which my other half enjoys. I am hoping that by making a public attempt at what will be a very real challenge for me, I am not going to be able to let myself off the hook, I’m going to have to get fit and get going!

Hi Jennifer, I’ve entered the Henley Swim too and like you I’ve vowed to get fit and get going.
I have 3 girls aged 12,11 and 9 and like you I have watched them grow and get into all sorts of sports – trampolining and football are the latest trends.
Now it’s my turn. I am determined not to be permanently wobbly in the middle and am getting into some training for the event.
I hope that I will see the This Girl Can group in the day. You are all a great inspiration.
Ahh, good to hear that you are also giving it a go Claire! Hope your girls are going to come and cheer you on. Thank you for the encouragement.
