I swam a mile this morning; I didn’t ache anywhere and felt as fresh when I finished as when I started.
While I was swimming I started to think about how much I have moved since the end of March. After I got the call from The Henley Mile Swim team that propelled me out of my Eat, Sleep, Candy Crush, repeat loop into a trajectory which I still can’t say where it will end.
I have swum over 30 miles – I am amazed that’s the width of the channel plus a bit.
I have lost nearly 2 stone in weight- that’s a start!
I have learned to care for myself a bit more, my biggest treat to myself was very, very expensive 1-2-1 lessons that completely changed the way I swim. What an investment they were. By May I hadn’t found anyone to teach me how to swim freestyle and decided that I would just have to carry on with my breaststroke. I had just about given up hope of finding anyone when I came across an interesting post on the Outdoor Swimming Society facebook page about The Art of Swimming – This method of swimming is said to be “the most innovative swimming technique designed to maximise efficiency in stroke while minimising & dealing with back pain, neck pain or stroke” – check! – It has certainly done it for me.
I have learned that it is actually OK to have conversations with random people. – the interest and support I have received from complete strangers has been a welcome surprise for me.
I have also learned that Candy Crush is best enjoyed in extremely short sessions, once a week. Level 863 – thank you for asking!
