I have wanted to do open water swimming for over a decade now, ever since I swam in a lagoon on a holiday abroad over 10 years ago (admittedly the water was a lot warmer there compared to the UK!). But for one reason or another I just haven’t managed to give it a go, either from lack of time of being a busy mum with my three gorgeous and very active boys, working as a business manager or more likely, not having the confidence to take the big first step.  Coming from a background where learning to swim was not encouraged when I was school age, I taught myself to swim in my 20s and then a couple of years ago had some proper swimming pool lessons, which fed my love for the water even more. My boys absolutely love swimming especially in the sea, which has motivated me to become a stronger swimmer and gain that vital experience of being in the open water, so I can help guide them to be safe in the water.I am so delighted to be selected for this challenge, all this fantastic support will help me to take that leap into open water swimming, and I hope that by me sharing this experience will inspire all women especially ethnic minorities, and those who learnt to swim later in life or are still thinking about it to take the plunge too.
