Now I have your attention with the title of this post, I would like to thank the Lady In The Shower. I don’t know her name, but I do know that she and her husband swim at the pool most days. Sometimes they are joined by their daughter. As I was lathering up, she said “My husband and I were talking about you the other day. Your swimming has improved so much!” While I have put in the hours in the pool and increasingly the lake, I can’t take all the credit for my improvement. Ali The Fabulous Swimming Coach has taken me from someone who hadn’t swum since I was at school, to someone who gets chlorinated or swims with the fish in the lake most days.
I was a bit taken aback by Lady In The Shower. While I was feeling very mopey and rubbish about my swim, I hadn’t seen the big picture. Within a few strokes, I knew it was going to be hard work. I promised myself that if I hadn’t warmed up and started to enjoy the swim by 500m, I was allowed to get out.
My week in stats:
Monday – 1.3km (lake swim),
Tuesday – Rest day
Wednesday – 1km (lake swim)
Thursday – 2km (pool swim)
Friday – 500m (pool swim) <—– And it’s that 500m I was disappointed with. But Lady In The Shower, you’re right. I thanked you in the shower, and I’m thanking you here again. Today you helped me to keep things in perspective. Today I was not feeling the water love. But since I started swimming in November/December time, you’re right. I have gone from someone with a slightly dubious swimming style to someone who now thinks swimming is THE BEST THING EVAAAR!!111one!”””!!111!
